IT Security Forum: Hands on Security Capture The Flag

This year, the RBTC IT Security Forum (previously the Cybersecurity Forum) has moved up our summer IT professionals Capture the Flag event to the spring time!

CTF is now on May 13th, after work from 5:30 - 9pm! Are you ready to hack?! 

Whether you're an old-growth IT Professional, a seasoned Cyber Pentester, or a green IT Security sapling...regardless of your skill level, if you love hands on IT Security, then this Capture the Flag event is for you! Our CTF is the #1 professional cybersecurity CTF event of the ROA/NRV region that attracts the best Sys-Admin/IT/Network-security and Pentester professionals, created and run by the Virginia Cyber Range.

Our CTF features tongue-in-cheek "Hollywood-hacker" style mood lighting, pumping electronica background music, and hundreds of dollars in IT-Professional themed prizes.. You don't want to miss this once-a-year regional IT Pro event.

This Jeopardy-style, 3 hour, hands-on hacking CTF is loaded with challenges from classic cybersecurity challenge categories such as Crypto, Recon, Reverse Engineering, and Web.. as well as our super fun "IRL" cyber-physical challenges ranging from WiFi hacking, to command-line VM port scans, radio/RF/RFID sniffing and more!

Gear To Bring:

Speaking of our IRL challenges, you will want to bring some specialized gear that many of you already own. Besides your laptop and power supply, to complete some of our wireless & IRL challenges, you'll want to bring any RF/Flipper (equiv) as well as WiFi sniffing gear (sniffing only, no attacks or brute forcing), and maybe even your favorite lock pick kit, if you have one (we may have /some/ loaners on hand).

Special Sneak Peak:

Our LED Matrix port scanning challenge is a real crowd-pleaser. Port scanning only the blue LEDs pops the flag and sets off spinning red lights, getting you BIG points on the scoreboard! To prepare, you really need to know how to work with ssh keys, and beef up on your port scans kung-fu (demo video here).
