Adventures of an Engineer in a Pharma Company
We’re excited to welcome Dr. Victor Iannello to Beer & Biotech! Chorda Pharma is developing and commercializing non-opioid analgesics to treat the growing incidence of chronic pain from arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, sports injuries, and other ailments. Dr. Iannello will be discussing how he got involved with Chorda, some of the challenges and successes they’ve faced in taking their first product to market, and how they are building long-term value for investors.

Victor Iannello, ScD

Dr. Iannello has spent his career developing and commercializing new technologies, and is an inventor on 13 US patents. He founded Radiant Physics Inc., which develops and commercializes advanced products related to health care and industrial technology. Prior to Radiant Physics, Dr. Iannello was Founder and CEO of Synchrony Inc., which developed magnetic bearings and instrumentation systems for high speed turbomachinery. Synchrony was sold to Dresser-Rand for $55 million.
Dr. Iannello has held Board positions with Carilion Clinic for 15 years, including Chairman of the Board of Directors of Carilion Medical Center, member of the Board of Directors of Carilion Clinic, and member of the Quality Subcommittee. Dr. Iannello advised Carilion on the formation and objectives of Carilion Innovation, and helped forge Carilion’s ties with several early-stage biomedical companies. He is active in the regional innovation ecosystem, having served as the Co-Chairman for the Valleys Innovation Council (now Verge) and Director for GO Virginia local council. He’s also served as the Chairman of the Roanoke-Blacksburg Business Council and three times as President of the Roanoke Regional Partnership. Dr. Iannello has also invested in early-stage companies through his angel network, Radiant Ventures.
After the disappearance of Malaysia Air flight MH370, Dr. Iannello was invited to join an international group of scientists and engineers called the MH370 Independent Group. He has authored and co-authored many papers related to the disappearance, hosts an active MH370 blog, and is a private pilot.
Dr. Iannello attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and holds the SB, SM, and ScD degrees in Nuclear Engineering. He received his three degrees in 6.5 years.
